The Kenwood TS-2000 is a good shack in the Box style radio. It's got enough features to do most of what is needed for HF, VHF (6m, 2m) and UHF (70cms) with an option to have a 1.2GHz module (which I don't have)The reciever is pretty sensitive and on HF it's possible to have readable signals with no indication on the S meter - I've heard signals that could be descrived as 4 and 0 (using the standard RST codes). Nothing like the standard 59 report given in a contest.
